Claremore - Kelli thought the promised $30 for answering the survey would come in handy but it's also what made her more skeptical. She says  "The letter says it's from the Department of Health and Human Services. It claims the survey is by Research Triangle Institute and I'll get $30 for filling it out. Is this for real or what?"

It is real according to that department.

A spokesperson says it's part of the annual Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration study.

Nearly 70-thousand people are surveyed annually. If you're selected and agree to participate someone will come ask you the questions in person.

An official says information from the survey is used to support prevention and treatment programs.

And, yes, people are paid $30 to participate.
