RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California man has been sentenced to death for the torture and murder of a 16-year-old runaway girl who was stabbed more than 130 times and left in a burning home.
Twenty-three-year-old Roman Aldana was sentenced Friday for the 2006 murder of Kayla Wood.
Prosecutors say the girl was killed after she spent the night drinking and having sex with Aldana and two 15-year-old boys in an abandoned Moreno Valley duplex.
Authorities say Aldana ordered the boys to kill Wood because he feared she was pregnant. She was assaulted with bottles and a toaster, had her hair set on fire and was stabbed more than 130 times before she was left in a bathtub in the burning home.
One boy, now 18, was sentenced earlier this year to 29 years to life in prison. A 19-year-old got 23 years.
