If you own white carpet, it is something always on your mind. But believe it or not, you do not rent a shampooer to clean the spots off your carpet. And the best part, you do not have to spend a lot to do it.

Depending on the type of stain you are trying to remove, all you need is some liquid dishwashing soap, some kitchen cupboard items and a vacuum.

If you have a grease spot or dirt sprinkle dry baking soda or dry cornstarch on the spot. Let it stand for an hour and then fire up the vacuum.

For the rest of the messes or to clean your entire carpet, it will take a little longer.

Begin by filling a tea kettle with water. Bring the water to a boil, and add ¼ cup of liquid soap and two teaspoons of white vinegar.

Let the mixture cool until it reaches a jelly-like consistency. Then whip it until it gets hard.

Once that is done, vacuum the carpet and apply the rug shampoo using a soft brush.

Allow the area to dry and then vacuum again.

Another recipe you might want to try is pouring two cups of water and two cups of white vinegar into a container.

Add ½ cup baking soda and ¼ cup laundry detergent.

Dip a cleaning cloth into the mixture and scrub into your carpeting.

Happy Cleaning!
