If you have a dog, children or just have nosey neighbors, then a privacy fence is a must. And for those on a budget, you can do it yourself for less than you think.

There are many types of materials for privacy fence such as wood, vinyl and wrought iron.

First, you need to decide what type of fence you want. Then determine how tall you want it to be. Once you determine those factors, you can break down the cost of materials and just how much time it will take to do it.

Two key factors you have to take into account is the type of soil and the weather conditions where the fence and fence posts will be located.

Getting started is easy. First be sure you mark the distance between where you want the fence to begin and end. The number of fence posts required is determined by the dividing the total distance by eight feet.

The next step is to dig holes to fix the fence posts. The post-holes should be 25 inches deep by 10 inches in diameter. Be sure you dig the holes slightly deeper than the frost line and taper them out a little at the bottom.

Depending on the type of fence you are installing, this is at which point you pour in the concert and let it set for at least two days.

If you are using wood fence, be sure the lumber is treated and termite resistant. If you can not afford that, everyday lumber will also work.

Next, use pickets to fill in the spaces between two fence posts.

Once it is all said and done, it is time to grab the paint brush and go from there if you want. Most times, white is the color of choice, but sometimes, the color of the wood also will work and is less time consuming.
