The Washington County Correctional Facilities Authority during its meeting Tuesday tabled an agenda item to discuss and take action on the the issuance of bonds for the construction of the new Washington County Detention Facility.

Presented at the meeting were five bids proposing financing options for the funding of the new jail.

BOSC out of Oklahoma City offered a financing total -- including prinicipal and interest -- of $17,658,072.16. BancFirst of Bartlesville submitted two bids -- one for a total of $18,402,282.50 and another for $18,339,762.25. Bank of America in Oklahoma City offered a total of $17,743, 475.66 and Wells Fargo out of Houston, $18,369,775.00.

A representative from Capital West Securities who presented the analysis of bids to the WCCFA said out of all the bids, the bids from the Bank of Oklahoma and from the Bank of America appeared most attractive.

Washington County commissiors said they wanted more time to review the bids and for the bidding institutions to clarify and perhaps, modify their bids.

Commissioners set a meeting to discuss and take action on the bids for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 24 in the commissioners meeting room at 400 S. Johnstone Ave.

On June 9, voters in Washington County approved a half-cent sales tax for the construction of a new jail.

The proposal to build a new jail came after the Oklahoma State Department of Health cited Washington County for its overcrowded jail facility currently located in the basement of the courthouse.

The construction of the jail to be located at Oak Park Avenue and Adams Boulevard will cost roughly $14.5 million.
